Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit this website or buy one of our books, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
Who we are
This website and our books, Algorithms Simplified and Computing Simplified, are published by Rohith B V, trading as Facile Publishing (“we”, “us”, “our”), based in the United Kingdom. For any privacy question you can reach us at rohith@rohith.co.uk.
For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the “controller” of the personal information described below.
The information we collect
- Information you give us directly: for example your name and email address if you contact us, or if you choose to join a mailing list.
- Delivery information: if you order a printed book, we receive the delivery name and postal address you enter at checkout, so that your order can be printed and sent. We do not need or ask for a postal address when you buy a digital edition.
- Purchase information: when you buy a book, the payment is handled by our third-party checkout and payment provider. That provider collects your payment details and shares limited order information with us (such as your name, email, country, and what you bought). We do not receive or store your full card number.
- Technical and usage information: like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical data (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) for security and to keep the site running. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, provided by our hosting provider Vercel Inc., to count page views and see which pages, referring sites and ad campaigns bring visitors. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device; visitors are counted using a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, so it cannot identify you or follow you across other websites. It records the page address (with ad-click identifiers removed), the referring site, your approximate location (country and city), and your device type, operating system and browser. With your consent, we also use Microsoft Clarity, an analytics tool that helps us understand how visitors use the site, for example pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, and aggregated session recordings and heatmaps. Clarity sets cookies and is provided by Microsoft. We use it only to improve the site, never to identify you personally. Clarity loads only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner, wherever you are, including the United States.
- Advertising measurement: we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel,
Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Analytics 4 and the
Microsoft Advertising UET tag to measure how our ads perform, for example whether visitors who
arrive from an ad reach our checkout and complete a purchase. These tools set cookies and send limited event
data (such as page views, purchases, and technical identifiers like your IP address and ad-click identifiers)
to Meta Platforms, Inc., Google LLC and Microsoft Corporation.
When they load depends on where you are. If you are in the UK or the EU, or we cannot tell which country you are in, none of them load until you choose “Accept” in the banner, and none load if you decline. If you are in the United States, where privacy law works on an opt-out basis, they may load when you arrive on our dollar pricing page; you can switch them off at any time with “Your privacy choices” in the footer, and if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we treat that as a refusal and load nothing. Session recording (Microsoft Clarity) is never included in this: it loads only on an explicit “Accept”, everywhere.
Our shop is hosted by Shopify, and where you have not opted out, Shopify shares checkout and purchase events with Meta from its own systems (including the order amount and a hashed version of your contact and delivery details, so that a purchase can be matched to an ad click). Separately, our own server sends a purchase event to Google and Microsoft after payment completes, including a hashed version of your email and the order amount, so that ad performance can be measured even when browser-side tracking is interrupted by redirects, ad blockers, or closed tabs. - Juxtapose licence activation: if you license Juxtapose, the application sends your licence key to our server so that we can check it is valid and count the seats in use. Our checkout provider also gives us the email address the licence was sold to, so that we can support you and reissue a key if you lose it.
- What Juxtapose does not send us: the application runs on your own computer. Your files, the candidates it creates from them, the comparisons you make and the decisions you reach stay on your machine. We do not receive them, and there is no account to create. Where several people evaluate one decision together, that material passes between their machines directly and not through us.
How we use your information
- To process your order, deliver your books, and provide customer support.
- To respond to your enquiries.
- To send you updates or marketing only if you have asked us to; you can opt out at any time.
- To keep records and meet our legal, accounting, and tax obligations.
- To protect the security and integrity of this website.
Our legal bases
We rely on: performance of a contract (to fulfil your order); your consent (for optional marketing and analytics cookies); our legitimate interests (to run and secure the site, count visits with cookieless analytics, and respond to enquiries); and legal obligation (to keep tax and accounting records).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information for money. Under some US state privacy laws, sharing data with advertising partners for targeted advertising counts as a “sale” or as “sharing”, and that is what the advertising tools described above do; see Your privacy choices (United States) for how to stop it. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the business: for example our payment/checkout provider, our print and fulfilment partner (Bookvault, who print and post orders for printed books and receive your delivery name and address for that purpose only), our analytics providers (Microsoft Clarity and Vercel Inc.), our advertising and measurement providers (Meta Platforms, Inc. and Google LLC), and our email or hosting providers. We share only what each needs to provide its service. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses) to protect your information.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, and as required to meet legal and tax obligations (in the UK, financial records are generally kept for six years).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information; to restrict or object to certain processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email us at rohith@rohith.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the site working and are always on. Advertising cookies (the Meta/Facebook Pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Analytics 4 and the Microsoft Advertising UET tag) and session-recording cookies (Microsoft Clarity) are optional. Whether they are set before you choose depends on where you are:
- UK and EU, and anywhere we cannot identify: nothing optional is set until you select “Accept” in the banner. If you decline, none are set.
- United States: the advertising cookies above may be set when you arrive, and you can switch them off with “Your privacy choices” in the footer. Session recording still waits for an explicit “Accept”.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal, we treat it as a refusal and set no optional cookies, wherever you are.
Vercel Web Analytics, which only counts page views, sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so it runs without a choice in the banner.
You can change your decision at any time: use “Your privacy choices” in the footer, clear this site’s cookies and stored data in your browser to be asked again, or block cookies through your browser settings (doing so may affect how parts of the site work). To learn how these providers handle your data, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement, the Meta Privacy Policy, the Google Privacy Policy, and the Vercel Privacy Policy.
Your privacy choices (United States)
If you are in the United States, you can opt out of the advertising uses described above at any time:
- Select “Your privacy choices” in the footer of our pricing pages or this page. That switches off the Meta, Google and Microsoft advertising tools for that browser and stops us sharing further browsing or purchase events with them for targeted advertising.
- Or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser or an extension. We read that signal on every page and treat it as an opt-out, so you do not need to tell us separately.
An opt-out is remembered in the browser you used, so it needs repeating on another browser or device, or if you clear your site data. Opting out does not stop us fulfilling an order you have already placed, and it does not affect the records we keep for tax and accounting.
Depending on your state, you may also have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Email rohith@rohith.co.uk and we will respond within the time your state allows. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly process the personal information of anyone under 16 for targeted advertising.
Children
This website and product are intended for a general adult audience and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above.
